Deposit protection deadlines explained
Under the Housing Act 2004, landlords must protect a tenant deposit in a government-approved scheme within 30 days of receiving it AND serve prescribed information within the same 30-day period. Failure to do either can result in a court ordering 1-3x the deposit as compensation, and prevents serving a Section 21 notice.
